Treatment with a Friend.

Good Friends.

Liberty has mentioned to me on several occasions how she wished that there was another child at treatment just like her. She said, of course she would never wish that someone else had cancer. But she just wanted a friend. Every time she has talked about it I have held back tears. We all know how it feels to want someone to relate to. Someone that will understand what we are going through. It's hard. It's not like there are a ton of kids right in our vicinity that are the same age with cancer. And just like she said we don't wish that anyone else had cancer. So I decided the next best thing would be to bring a friend with us. Her best friend. Treatment was short that day and it was a perfect time to bring a friend along. I think Lib felt great being able to say, see this is where I go and get my medicine and the people are nice and it's not scary. They had fun giggling and playing games. Then we went out to lunch and they had so much fun eating and dancing to the reggae music in Rubio's. It was nice for Lib to share a piece of her "normal" for a day with a good friend.

Hi Liberty!
I was just reading through your blog and I wanted to say hello!! Sounds like you're having as good a summer as can be expected, huh? I'm glad you brought a friend to the clinic. Grant used to like to do that too. It helped the time go faster if he had a friend to play those video games with (boys are like that, you know). It was fun seeing Kristen and the other girls at the clinic in your pictures. We were just there yesterday to say Hi to everyone. Someday soon you'll be all done and just want to stop by to say Hi because you miss them!
Sorry to read that you had a reaction to those nasty PEG shots! Ugh!! Grant did that too! He did fine after the first one, then got a bit of a rash after the second one, then got a really bad reaction (I can't remember if that was after the 2nd or 3rd one. Maybe Kristen and Sarah will remember.)
Good luck with those steroids!! Don't try to eat everything in sight!! I know how hungry you're going to be. Grant would sometimes take a snack up to his room so when he woke up he wouldn't have to go downstairs to get something to eat!! He ate lots of hot dogs and cottage cheese! Weird, huh?
Have a good last few weeks of summer. I'll be checking your blog to see how your counts are doing. Hopefully you'll be able to join us in 3rd grade very soon! We're all looking forward to a great year. Remember I'll be right next door and I'm hoping for lots of hugs!!
See you soon-
Mrs. Larson
